Welcome to a heightened, digital NNPN Rolling World Premiere of ALABASTER by Audrey Cefaly. This poignant story of love, art, and the healing power of humanity (with the help of our animal friends) comes directly to your home by way of four incredible actors’ homes--spanning from Hawaii to New York.

When we closed our doors 14 months ago, SLAC committed to being a part of the solution by keeping our artists and patrons safe. At the same time, we remained devoted to employing artists and engaging our audience. We theatre people went to work and embraced the digital world. Last fall, Salt Lake Acting Company partnered with eight theatres for a unique digital theatre experience – AMERICAN DREAMS. We delved into the world of video production by producing our nine SLAC DIGITAL SHORTS, each of which was written by an artist with Utah ties. This past holiday season, our virtual children’s play, CLIMBING WITH TIGERS, more than tripled our usual reach. We developed three new works by some of the country’s most exciting voices in our first New Play Sounding Series Festival. And now, building on this new way of creating, we present to you, ALABASTER.

“The play is a feast for designers, everything from outsider art to scars to epic storms sequences. I talked with Cynthia and Martine in the early days of the pandemic about how we might design for film vs. filming something designed for stage. And now SLAC is not only embracing those challenges but using them as an opportunity to push the boundaries of digital theater in this tailor-made-for-film production. It thrills me to see such breath-taking art direction. Everything has been carefully considered... lighting, sound, camera angles, gorgeously rendered scenic elements, along with a meticulous master plan to refine and add additional elements in post-production. Rehearsals are intense. The cast is incredible. I’m blown away.”

Continuing to be a resource to our community during a pandemic takes a community. Thanks and gratitude to The Davey Foundation and Salt Lake Film Society.

The talented film artisans at The Davey Foundation lent their expertise to help us tell stories that transcend a screen and go straight to our hearts. Salt Lake Film Society’s @homeArts program has allowed SLAC to use a professional screening platform to present our plays at

SLAC is proud to partner with Utah Pet Partners and Amethyst Center for Healing. These vital organizations remind us that we are not alone, and together we can find meaning and stay strong.

Thank you for being with SLAC virtually these past 14 months. I look forward to sitting next to you in the theatre someday soon.

My forever gratitude,
